This week we are in Happy Valley again this year to take on Penn State. Gametime 12:30 PT and we will be at Busby’s in Santa Monica again for the game. Let’s hope we can stop our 2 game losing streak. GO ILLINI!

Ohio State in the House for the Illibuck Trophy

Orange and Blue stripes in the stadium is the theme for this week’s home game. Last week the 41-20 win against Indiana was a nice win on the road for us but Ohio State are no slackers. We will have to bring our A game to win THE BATTLE FOR THE ILLIBUCK.

What’s an Illibuck you ask? “Illibuck” is – or was – a turtle, destined for long life, it was hoped. But the wear and tear of traveling between Champaign-Urbana and Columbus was too much, even for a hardy marine reptile. “Illibuck” died in the spring of 1927 and his successor is now a wooden replica. Members of two junior honorary societies, Bucket and Dipper of Ohio State and Atius-Sachem of Illinois, annually meet at halftime of the Fighting Illini-Buckeye game to present the “Illibuck” trophy to the previous year’s winning school.

LA Illini will be watching the game at Busby’s in Santa Monica again for the 12:30 PM start. See you there and GO ILLINI!!

The 4-0 Illini get past Western Michigan 20-23

What a great game for the Illini fans at Busbys! We watched the Illini win while the Cal fans adjacent to us were quite unhappy with their team. Troy Pollard carried the ball for a career-high 133 yards and now we are ranked in the top 25 for the second week in a row. Wohoo!!! This week we are watching at Sharkeez in Hermosa. Come out and join us.

ASU Who? Illini Win in Exciting Game

We had over 20 people at Busby’s in Santa Monica cheering for the Illini in a terrific win over ASU. 3-0 for the Illini.. Come join us this week at Busby’s again to cheer on the team as they take on Western Michigan this Saturday at 12:30 PM.

When do you hear that about any of our games eh? This was the headline in the St. Louis newspaper this Sunday when I was home visiting. Saturday was a fun game to watch Illinois look like OSU playing their first few games. Here are a some game notes:

Illinois hadn’t won this big since 1944, in a 79-6 crushing of Illinois-Normal played in front of 5,000 fans.
Illinois rolled up 519 yards of offense and allowed the Jackrabbits (1-1) just 96.

Let’s see how we play against ASU. We have to step up our game for sure.

Illini win over Arkansas State

ILLINI win and the LA Illini are back in session as we gathered at Busbys this past Saturday to watch the victory. Here are a few official game notes:

1. Illinois defeated Arkansas State, 33-15, in the first game of the season for both teams. The victory marks the first season-opening win for the Illini since 2006, when Illinois defeated Eastern Illinois, 42-17, on Sept. 2.

2. Nathan Scheelhaase finished 16-of-23 for 267 yards and two touchdowns. During the game, Scheelhaase tossed a 72-yard completion to A.J. Jenkins to break a career high for longest pass, eclipsing his previous best of 54 yards set vs. Southern Illinois on Sept. 11, 2010.

3. Scheelhaase topped his career high for passing yards against Arkansas State with 267. Scheelhaase’s previous high was achieved in his last game, with 242 vs. Baylor in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29, 2010.

4. Scheelhaase now has 15 touchdowns and just one interception in his last eight games.

5. The Illini had two receivers with over 100 yards each for the first time since Oct. 11, 2008, against Minnesota (Arrelious Benn [181] and Jenkins [117]). Jenkins had 148 yards on 11 receptions, while Darius Millines had 119 yards on five catches against Arkansas State. Both receivers recorded one touchdown during the contest.
